Iceburn
Utah's Iceburn are a legend in the underground rock of '80s. Their music, at debut defined "skate-metal",fused the languages of progressive-rock, jazz, metal and hardcore. Founded by the guitar of Gentry Densley, then published records for most important labels of US hardcore: Victory and Revelation. Changing the moniker as the music progressed, they became the Iceburn Collevtive, The Iceburn Double Trio, etc. Their 10 year creative arc took listeners on a journey, each album containing more and more improvisation, ending up in the end of the century as a fully improvising free jazz ensemble. They left the hardcore labels behind and put out their recordings themselves and with the help of labels like the The Mountain Collective for Independent Artists. The recordings, featuring Iceburn veterans Chad Popple and Ed Rodriguez (Colossamite, Gorge Trio, Flying Luttenbachers), on the 10" split with Zu are their last studio work. Recorded in early 2001 as a doom-laden elegy to the bands existence, it is also backward glance at their hardcore origins, as well as a bridge to the new sonic pursuits of the key players. These recordings were almost lost, but thanks to Massimo who unearthed and championed them in 2005, we have a document with a complimentary batch of recordings from Zu.
Gli Iceburn sono uno dei progetti piu` avventurosi della musica rock degli anni '90. La loro musica, inizialmente nel genere "skate-metal", e` un genere di progressive-rock che fonde jazz, metal e hardcore. Gli Iceburn vennero formati a Salt Lake City dal chitarrista Gentry Densley, dal 92 pubblicano album per le colonne portanti dell'hardcore statunitense: Victory e Revelation. Con il progredire della musica sono diventati di volta in volta Iceburn Collective, The Iceburn Double Trio, etc. I loro dieci anni di creatività hanno portato l'ascolatatore verso un viaggio sempre più pieno di improvvisazione, diventando a fine anni 90 un free jazz ensemble, lasciando così le etichette di estrazione più hardcore ed autoproducendosi gli album con l'aiuto della label The Mountain Collective for Independent Artists. La registrazione dello split 10" con Zu trova nella line-up, oltre a Gentry, Chad Popple e Ed Rodriguez (Colossamite, Gorge Trio, Flying, Luttenbachers). Registrato nel 2001, è il un perfetto tributo all'essenza degli Iceburn, carico di doom quanto vicino all'hardcore delle origini, con delle aperture soniche dovute alle nuove esperienze dei tre musicisti. Queste registrazioni erano quasi perse, vengono pubblicate grazie all'interessamento degli Zu, che rappresentano il perfetto complemento per questa uscita
