Comaneci

Romagna, Italy

Anguille is the new album by Comaneci, one of the purest and most respected bands in the Italian independent music scene, active since 2005 with their ever-evolving blend of dream folk, alt rock, and psychedelia. Anticipated by the singles Little girl and Loss of gravity the fifth album from this musical project comprising Francesca Amati, Glauco Salvo, and Simone Cavina was officially released on October 14, 2022, through Santeria Records, Wallace Records, and Tannen Records, available on compact disc, vinyl, as well as streaming and digital download.

The production features recording, mixing, and mastering by Mattia Coletti, a longtime collaborator of the band. The work was completed over two years and recorded not in recording studios but in alternative spaces, such as the theatrical space of Arboreto - Teatro Dimora in Mondaino and a hillside house in Cartoceto, places that characterized the album with their sounds and imaginative potential.

But why a title like Anguille (Eels)? The Comaneci themselves explain: The eel represents an enigma. It's a fish but also something else—snake, worm, sea monster. The figure of the eel pushes one to persevere in research, regardless of how much time is needed or how desperate the endeavor may be. Its life is a dilemma that drives researchers to stubbornness. "Anguille" is an album of perseverance and transformation: born and raised in times of distance and limitations, it sought to transform itself into an opportunity to explore new horizons.

The lyrics are elaborations of or complete poetic texts, representing a constant "new line," a continuous turning toward a fresh beginning. The album features collaborations with Tim Rutili of Califone and Troy Mytea aka Dead Western with their wonderfully alienating voices, and Luca Cavina (Zeus, Arto, Calibro 35) with elegant bass and synth parts
